Mouthing and biting are usual problems with all dachshunds. If not controlled by the time the miniature dachshund gets older, not only will you have a less cooperative dog to handle, but also a bigger, stronger jaw to deal with.

Usually dachshund puppies mouth our hands during excitement or when playing and puppies more often do this more to kids than adults. And it is up to you to control this habit of your puppy. You can try the steps mentioned below to train your dog pup.

In the beginning, a dachsund will use his mouth to explore his surroundings. Throughout the teething process, it keeps the dog happy to chew on all manner of items, soft and hard.

Giving suitable items for a dachshund to concentrate on can sometimes be a simple method of resolving a mouthing habit. Indestructible chew toys like large nylon bones or hard rubber Kongs can provide a good solution for mouthing. It is suggested to use larger rawhide items and natural bones for your pups to meet with their chewing needs.

The moment when your puppy starts chewing on you just make him realize that you are in pain no matter if she has really twinged at your skin. Just let out a yelp, by doing so she will be scared and will leave you.

You may wish to offer the back of your hand for your puppy to lick. By doing this, not only are you teaching him that our skin is tender, but also that you expect a sign of deference (licking your hand) for their action.

If the pup cooperates you, it is suggested to appreciate his cooperation. You may also choose to assign a command like "no bite" or "no mouth", so he will move his behavior with your command. This method should work with the average, eager-to-please pup.

Does your puppy begin mouthing you if you don't respond when he wants to? Is he constantly tripping you up, or starting to play tug-o-war with the leash when youre taking him to walk? Is he uncooperative when you direct him to do something like getting off the couch? If the answer is yes, you may have a tyrant or dominant pup. With this kind of pup you may need to use a little more discipline.
