Surely this has happened to you more than once; you are searching for a product or service and then you start seeing advertisements for the product, service or company everywhere. It’s like you are being stalked right! You jump on Facebook and there it is, a few days later you are checking out a video on Youtube and you see it again. You visit your favorite news site only to see it yet again, you can’t hide from it. A month goes by and you search Google for something totally different and the website you end up on has an ad for the company you were checking out over a month ago.
This is called Remarketing – Marketers know that is takes 16 impressions for a purchase to be made and that the hardest part is grabbing the attention of your target market. You did know that it takes 16 impressions now to make a sale – right?…up from 9 just last year. As a Marketer this should be very exciting for you. Think about it, you have a visitor to your website – they basically raised their hand and said yes I am interested in your products and services but I am not ready to buy just yet. You don’t have their contact information but for the next 180 days you can follow them around the Internet reminding them of your brand, products and services – impressing them by how you are everywhere.
How Does Remarketing Work?
Using the Remarketing feature on your website is very simple. All you need to do is add a piece of code generated by Google AdWords or by Facebook, known as the remarketing pixel tag. Place the code on any and all of the web pages you want to trigger the Remarketing Campaign. The code can be added anywhere; however, ideally it should be added to either the header or the footer. Once it is done, you can create remarketing lists for any of your webpages. When someone visits the page, their cookie id is added to the list and your ad keeps following the visitor for up to 180 days. The great thing about Facebook Remarketing is that a custom audience is created and you can create future ads to target those visitors over and over again.
“Retargeted customers are 70% more likely to complete a purchase than someone who has not been remarketed to”
Remarketing is also a great way to keep in front of current customers. You can show customers special offers that will increase their purchases with you…which will increase your bottom line. Remarketing has been around for several years but is just now becoming known and the results are very impressive. You can set your budget, test and beef up the ad spend on the ones that are working for you.
